Rick Johnson has been named assistant coach for the University of Maine-Presque Isle men's basketball program.
Johnson, a Pennsylvania native, last served as a volunteer assistant women's coach at Angelo State University, an NCAA Division II institution in San Angelo, Texas. Angelo State finished 14-13 last season, 5th in the traditionally tough Lone Star Conference.
Previously, Johnson was an assistant basketball coach at USCAA power Robert Morris University-Springfield and a student manager with South Dakota State University. During Johnson's tenure at RMU-Springfield, he coached Reid David who would be named a USCAA Division I Second Team All-American in 2013.
With experience working at some of the most prestigious basketball camps in the nation, Johnson boasts camp stints with the Hoop Group, University of Maryland, Syracuse University, Visionary Basketball Group, Providence College and Rhode Island University. Johnson was site director for Big Shots AAU Tournaments in Washington D.C. and has worked at St. Anthony's Basketball with Hall of Famer Bob Hurley.
During his time as a player, Johnson played basketball at Ecclesia College and Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College with career highs of 36 points and 15 rebounds. As a senior, his William Penn Senior High School (York, PA) squad went 32-2.
Johnson will focus on recruiting, scouting and administrative duties in the athletic department.
