March 13, 2014The Association of Division III Independents consists of seven Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
OWLS GARNER ALL-INDEPENDENT POST-SEASON AWARDS
UMaine-Presque Isle Senior Forward Michael Warner was named to the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) all-independent first team. David Louison and Michael Megafu of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn named co-players of the year in the Association as well. Also named to the first team were Brady Moses, Maranathan Baptist University and Trevor Johnson of Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Warner led Presque Isle in scoring (15.5ppg) and ranked among the nations best three point shooters, hitting on 46.9% of his long-range attempts. The senior co-captain from Norwich, UK also snared 5.8 rebounds a game and shot 84.5% from the free throw line.
Louison, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., averaged 18.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game and had 16 double-doubles in 27 games. The forward was a six-time AD3I Player of the Week and was Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of January.
Megafu, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., put up averages of 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and had 17 double-doubles on the year. The forward took home AD3I Player of the Week honors three times and was Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of November.
UMaine-Presque Isle's Thiago Conceicao was named to the AD3I's Second Team. The Freshman from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil led the Association in field goal %, shooting 65.6% from the field and averaged 13.9 points and7.4 rebounds per game, while registering four double-doubles in his first year of collegiate play.
The Owls Chase Vicaire was awarded a place among the honorable mention all-association stars as well. Vicaire, a sophomore from Mattawamkeag, Maine was Presque Isle's second leading scorer (14.4ppg), shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc, and averaged 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game for UMPI.
The All-Independent Men's Basketball teams were selected by the men's basketball coaches from AD3I member schools.
