UM-Presque Isle started slowly in their game against the Fisher College Falcons and despite fighting back several times, the Owls could not hold back the Falcons, losing 93-77 in the opening game of the Colby College Tournament Saturday.
The Owls would end the first half down 53-40, unable to stop the Falcons leading scorer, Tyler Shular, who registered 18 of his game high 28 in the first stanza. Shular, a 6'3 sophomore, missed only one first half shot and had already put home three 3 pointers in the first 20 minutes of play.
UMPI would show the same fight they have in each game this season, scoring the first 7 points of the second half to cut the lead to 53-47 at the 17:30 mark, but Shular would knock down his fourth 3 pointer of the game to start a 24-9 run that would put the game away for the Fisher Falcons.
The Blue & Gold's backcourt finished strong with Chase Vicaire sharing the team high scoring mark with reserve freshman Sean Manganti, as each tallied 19 and sophomore point guard Derek Healy added 17, with 3 assists and 4 steals.
Fisher is now 4-4 and next plays in the championship game Sunday against College. UMPI (2-2) will play UM-Fort Kent in the first game of the Sunday session at the Tournament at 2pm.
