Presque Isle, Me - The Owls (1-0) opened the season with a dominant performance against the overmatched Clippers (2-1). With Thaigo Conceicao and Michael Warner starring for the Owls, and Clippers finding some consolation in the play of Floyd Higgins and AC Ford.
Both sides were a little slow to start the game. Sitting on an 11-11 tie with 13:13 to play in the first, Derek Healy sparked an Owl 14-2 run with two steals and Thaigo Conceicao getting a couple of nice put backs to add to his 17 first half points. Leading to a 10 point lead at the half, the Owls looked to be in control of this one.
It was never close in the second half. The Owls held on to their double digit lead the rest of the way in this one. Owls' senior Michael Warner piled on 14 second half points to end the game with 24pts, 7 rebs, and 2 ast showing the leadership he has become known for and Owls' freshman Thaigo Conceicao used a stellar first half to finish with 24 pts, 9 rebs, and 4 blks.
The Clippers showed some of the sparks of a brilliant squad. Senior leader AC Ford getting into the lane multiple times finishing with tear drop floaters or kicking it to the abnormally cold outside shooters. With Higgins incredible slashing ability the Clippers have the pieces to make a deep run in the Yankee Small College Conference. Yet, on this night the Owls were able to control everything on the floor and walk away with a great first win.
