Manifold Named AD3I Player of the Year

(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- University of Maine-Presque Isle's Patrick Manifold (Sr./Great Yarmouth, UK) added to his post season accolades on Thursday when he was named the Association of NCAA Division III Independents men's basketball "Player of the Year".  Two weeks ago, Manifold was named a USCAA 2nd Team All-American.  The 6'8 englishman led the team with 17.7 points per game and 8.9 rebounds.  He finished his career with 1351 points.

"I congratulate Patrick on being named the Player of the Year," said Presque Isle coach Jim Casciano, "winning this award is a testament to his dedication and hard work not only for this season but throughout his career.  Patrick is most deserving of this honor."

Manifold is the first Owl men's basketball player to be named AD3I Player of the Year.  UMaine-Presque Isle has been an NCAA Division III Independent since 2004-2005.

Manifold is flanked by two teammates on the AD3I 1st Team.  Claude "Shmoke" Louis (Jr./Union, NJ) and Michael Warner (Jr./Norwich, UK) were also named "First Team All-Independent".

"It is fantastic that Shmoke and Michael have been selected to the AD3I first team," Casciano added, "it is a reflection of the kind of year that they had and the impact that they have on our team. Also, it is  a stepping stone for next season as I anticipate that they will have great senior seasons."

Louis, a transfer student from New Jersey, made a splash with the team in his first year with his intense on-court personality and his propensity for knocking down deep three's.  The guard averaged 14.9 points per game in helping the Owls make an 8-win improvement this season.

The mild-mannered Warner had a breakout season with the Owls this year emerging as a deadly perimeter shooter.  After averaging a respectable 8.8 points per game in 2011-12, Warner shot 47.5% from the floor this season and increased his points per game average to 13.8.

"I am very lucky and privileged to have made the AD3I 1st team," said Warner, "I never have thought I would be recognized like this!"

Both Warner and Manifold were awarded AD3I "Player of the Week" status this season.  Warner received the honor on January 21st for averaging 25.0 points per game and shooting 65.5% (19-29) from the floor over two games between Jan. 14-20.  On February 6th, Manifold took player of the week thanks to a 25 point and 10.3 rebound average in three games between Jan. 28 - Feb. 3rd.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 10 NCAA Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in 2012-13.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
