(FORT KENT, ME) -- Claude "Shmoke" Louis (Jr./Union, NJ) and Patrick Manifold (Sr./Great Yarmouth, UK) each scored 26 points to lead the University of Maine-Presque Isle men's basketball team to a 71-63 win at the University of Maine-Fort Kent on Wednesday night.
The Owls are now 6-4 on the season after only winning 3 games all of last season (including a pair of losses to Fort Kent). Fort Kent is now 0-9.
After taking a 37-32 lead into the halftime lockerroom, the Owls kept the pressure on after the break and built a comfortable double digit lead. But the Bengals would not go silently into the night on their home court. Led by Yoshives Belizaire's 14 point, 13 rebound performance, the Fort Kent roared back and tied the game with five minutes remaining.
Down the stretch however it seemed that whenever the Owls needed a big basket, Louis would answer the bell. The junior transfer from New Jersey hit two huge 3-pointers to make sure Presque Isle never fell behind.
Manifold shot 11-20 from the floor and also collected a team-high 9 rebounds.
The Owls will get a short break before they go for three straight wins when they play host to Eastern Maine Community College next Friday, December 14th. Gametime is at 5:30pm.
