WATERVILLE, Maine --- University of Maine at Presque Isle scored the final five points of the game and held Fisher College without a point for the final 3:32 of play to take a 61-59 victory in the consolation game of the Colby College Men's Basketball Classic on Saturday.
Maine-Presque Isle improved to 3-3 overall, while Fisher fell to 4-4.
Fisher led 59-55 after all-tournament team selection Sam Nwadike hit a basket with 3:32 to play. UMPI's Michael Warner, though, followed with a 3-point shot to cut the margin to 59-58 with 2:13 to play. After a missed jumper by the Falcons, UMPI's Gerardo Vasquez scored on a drive to the basket to give the Owls the lead at 60-59 with 1:14 left. Fisher had two opportunities in the final minute to take the lead, but missed inside both times. Warner connected on one of his two free throw attempts with 2.9 seconds left for the final point.
Patrick Manifold had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead UMPI, which led 35-28 at halftime. Claude Louis, an all-tournament team selection, added 14 points, Brad Trask had 13 points and six rebounds, and Warner had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with a team-high six assists.
Tyler Radicioni paced Fisher with 14 points and Nwadike had 11 points. Kyle Murphy had a game-high 10 assists and added six rebounds and five points. Chris Green contributed eight points, seven rebounds, and four assists Ryan McCorkle pulled down a game-high 11 boards and had nine points.
The Owls will play next on Monday, December 3rd against UMaine-Augusta. That game will start at 7:30pm and be played at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, ME.
