WATERVILLE—The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle 81-66 in the first round of the Charlie Ryan Classic. The Terriers were lead by sophomore Franklin Salvador who scored 22 points.
With the win the Terriers improve to 2-0 while the Owls fall to 1-1
Slow starts at the beginning of the game and out of halftime proved to be too much for the Owls to overcome. The Terriers jumped out to a 20-3 lead in the first few minutes of the game.
By halftime, the Owls had whittled the Thomas lead down to 43-38.
The Terriers wasted no time in the second half building their lead back up however, as they started off on a 17 point run that was eventually stopped by a three hit by Aaron Hutchins (So./East Millinocket, ME). The Owls fought to chip at the Terriers lead but ran out of time, resulting in the 81-66 defeat.
The Owls were led by Michael Warner (So./Norwich, UK) who had 19 points, 3 rebounds and an assist. Patrick Manifold (Jr./Great Yarmuth, UK) pulled down 17 rebounds and added nine points.
