WATERVILLE -- UMPI 6th man Aaron Hutchins (So./East Millinocket, ME) scored 27 points to lead four Owls in double-figures in an 81-66 victory over Newbury College in the consolation game of the Charlie Ryan Classic played at Thomas College.
The win moves UMPI to 2-1 on the season.
It was a night where the Owls put up some eye-popping offensive numbers. From the floor Presque Isle shot 55% for the game including 66% (14-21) in the second half. The team was even more accurate from the free throw line, hitting 15-16 shots from the charity stripe in the 2nd half alone and 23-27 (85%) overall.
Patrick Manifold (Jr./Great Yarmuth, UK) continued his strong start to the season scoring 22 points on 7-12 shooting while pulling down a team-high 9 rebounds. Firday night's leading scorer, Michael Warner (So./Norwich, UK) scored 22 points including a perfect 3-3 from 3-point land. Brad Trask (Jr./Easton, ME) rounded out UMPI's quartet of double digit scorers by posting a season-high 12.
The Owls finish a 3-game weekend swing Sunday at the University of Southern Maine. Tip time set for 1pm.
