Big 2nd Half Propels USM Over UMPI

GORHAM -- The University of Southern Maine used a 37-4 advantage in bench points en route to a 93-64 win over the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Sunday.  The Huskies built a 12 point lead at halftime before pulling away from the Owls in the 2nd half.  USM outscored UMPI 46-29 after halftime against an UMPI team that was playing its 3rd contest in as many days.

With the win Southern Maine moves to 3-0 on the young season while UMPI falls to 2-2.

For the second straight game, UMPI put four scorers in double figures.  Aaron Hutchins (So./East Millinocket, ME) followed up a 27 point performance in a win over Newbury College on Saturday scored 14 on Sunday while Owl point guard Gerardo Vasquez (Jr./Houston, TX) led the team in scoring with 16.  Michael Warner (So./Norwich, UK) scored 13 points while leading the team with 5 rebounds and Patrick Manifold (Jr./Great Yarmuth, UK) chipped in 14.

The Owls will take a break for Thanksgiving before returning to action on December 3rd when they travel to Bowdoin College.  Game time is set for 3pm.
