The University of Maine at Presque Isle is excited to announce that the Baseball team has landed two more Maine recruits. Nathan Church out of Dover-Foxcroft Maine and Campton Tinkham from Manchester Maine both have committed to UMPI for fall of 2020.
Church attended Foxcroft Academy where he played baseball for four years. The pitcher and third baseman led his team in steals his senior year, while hitting over .350 on the year. Church also threw a no-hitter on the mound his senior year. Church plans to major in Exercise Science while attending UMPI. Church showed his excitement about attending UMPI, "I'm excited to get the chance to continue playing baseball and furthering my education at UMPI".
Tinkham, a three-sport athlete out of Maranacook Community High School will plan to run cross-country in the fall, Nordic Ski in the winter and play Baseball in the spring. Eric Brown, Tinkham's high school baseball coach spoke highly of his work ethic. "Campton is a determined, dedicated player who strives to meet his personal and team goals each and every day. He is coachable and leaves nothing on the field. He never takes a day off and leads by example." Tinkham will also study Exercise Science at UMPI.
Coach Stinson is looking forward to having both of these Maine athletes on the UMPI roster. "I am excited to add Nathan to our program; Nathan was as a solid player when he played at Foxcroft. I am expecting him to bring some of Coach Miller's style discipline to the team and help the younger guys here become even stronger student/athletes." Stinson also spoke on Tinkham's contributions he will be making here at UMPI, "Adding an athlete like Campton is definitely another win for our program. Campton is coming to us with the work ethic of a solid student/athlete with him wanting to display his ability in 3 sports while here on campus it shows the type of work ethic I like in my players".
