Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Baseball Team has been on the diamond for a couple of weeks now with the Fall portion of their Program and recently played two games in Auburn against Central Maine Community College.
The Team fared well at CMCC and showed many positive signs of what the 2019 Spring season may bring for the Owls squad. UMPI broke out the bats midway through the first game and went on to a convincing 16 to 7 win over the Mustangs. Ryan Sanderson hit a solo homerun for the Owls, Will Stinson belted two run homer and Jacob Moreno had a 3 run shot in the 7th inning over the fence at the Auburn Suburban Baseball Complex to propel UMPI to the win. In the second game of the doubleheader, CMCC defeated the Owls 11 to 4.
When asked what he was looking for with the team's Fall workouts, 2nd year Coach Roger Stinson responded, "I am looking to see the new guys who have come in and how they jell with the veterans. At the same time I am looking for the veterans of our team to take them under their wing and show them the ropes, and also, help them through the process of getting to know what I expect from them as student-athletes."
The Owls have 8 newcomers to their roster along with 12 returning players. On their regular season schedule Coach Stinson said, "We are headed to North Carolina and Virginia to start our Spring with games vs. Greensboro, North Carolina Wesleyan, Apprentice School in Virginia, and Stratford and Marymount before we head to Lynn, Massachusetts for the Roberto Clemente Tournament at Fisher College." When they return for play in Maine, UMPI will face Husson University, University of Maine at Farmington and Thomas College, who along with the Owls, are in the North Atlantic Conference. They will also compete at Colby College in Waterville.
The baseball team will play an Alumni game at 10:00AM on Sunday October 7th scheduled to be played at Fort Fairfield High School.
