Waterville, ME—The University of Maine Presque Isle Owls took on the Colby College Mules in a weekend doubleheader. In the Owls last regular season match up; the Mules took the sweep in a two game victory, 2-1 and 7-2. This ends the Owls regular season with a 4-27 record.
With a low scoring game one the Mules earned a run early in the first inning off a single by Keenan Iuliano. George Schmidt added one more run for Colby in the second off an RBI double.
The Owls held off the Mules for the remainder of the game only allowing one more hit in the remaining four innings. Unfortunately for the Owls, the Mules defense was just as strong, allowing only three hits in the first six innings. It wasn't until the seventh when the Owls ended the drought, off a Colby Spencer (Fairfield, NC) grounder bringing Matt Curry (Caribou, ME) home.
Brooks Parker earned the win on the mound for the Mules, and Frank Driscoll earned the save. Curry earned five strikeouts in the loss.
Game two began with a four run second inning for the Mules. Runs came off a SAC fly by Matt Mitchell, a two RBI double by Jonah Katz, and an Andrew Russell single. Angel Morales (Windsor, CT) was caught stealing, but allowed Will Stinson (Skowhegan, ME) to steal home.
The Mules extended their lead with a two RBI single by William Wessman in the fourth and a RBI ground out by Mitchell. Curry hit an RBI single allowing Morales to score in the sixth.
Alexander Wieder earned his first win of the year on the mound allowing three of the Owls four hits.
