Bronx, NY – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls lost their conference doubleheader vs. John Jay College Bloodhounds. Owls losing the close games by only one point in each, 1-0 and 4-3.
Game one was a defensive battle between the Owls Matt Curry (Caribou, ME) and the Bloodhounds Christian Rodriguez. Rodriguez allowed eight hits in his shut out win, while Curry had a perfect game through three. Steven Catuogno spoiled the perfect game in the fourth, Ryan Osborne later grounded out to shortstop allowing Catuogno to score the only run of the game.
Game two started in similar fashion, until Saul Nunez (Mapleton, ME) ended the Owls scoring drought on the day with a two run homer to left field in the third inning; his third homerun on the year and second on the weekend.
Dylan Locke singled to right field to close the Owls lead to one in the fourth. In the sixth inning Ryan Sanderson (Cow Bay, NS) singled to right field, bringing Matt Cauchon (Kingston, MA) home. The Bloodhounds picked up their defense in the final two innings, only allowing two singles, while also picking up their offense. Philip Bellomo doubled down the left field line to bring in two Bloodhound players home, tying the game at three.
With a man on first and third Locke hit a SAC fly to center field to drive home the game wining run.
The doubleheader vs. Colby College was postponed to April 29th. The Owls, in their next match up will face Central Maine Community College on Sunday the 22nd.
