Northborough, MA – On Sunday University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls took on the Anna Maria College Cats in a double header. The Cats took game one 4-1 while the Owls came up short in a close one, losing the second game 6-5.
The Cats came out strong in the first game scoring all four of their runs in the first inning. Jason Shell's single started their rally followed by another single by Justin Robbins; an error by the Owls tacked on another for Anna Maria.
It was strictly defense for both teams the rest of the way, until Matt Curry (Caribou, ME) double brought fellow captain Matt Cauchon (Kingston, ME) home to end the Owls drought. Although, that was not enough as the Cats finished the game in seven winning 4-1. Nick Genatossio earned the win on the mound for Anna Maria.
Owls jumped on the board first in game two as a couple of Cats errors allowed Bradley Patterson (Harker Heights, TX) to give UMPI a 1-0 lead. After tying it up in the second by a Genatossio single, the Cats took the lead in the third. Two runs came from a Jake Crevier double, another coming from a single by Jack Marzec, giving them a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Owls gained back the lead. An error by the shortstop allowed Will Stinson (Skowhegan, ME) to score from second. Ryan Sanderson (Cow Bay, NS) hit a single to left center field, an error by the center field and some hard running by Sanderson brought all three Owls home to give them a 5-4 lead. With a man on first and second, Genatossi hit a walk off doubled to left center, giving the Cats the win.
UMPI will take on Rivier this Friday the 30th in a double header at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA. Games will be at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
