The University of Maine Presque Isle Owls took on College of Staten Island Dolphins this Sunday to end their conference stretch on the road. The game ended with the Owls losing 4-1 to the Dolphins.
Both teams showed strong defensive early in the afternoon match up. Owls gave up only two hits in the first four innings, while the Dolphins only allowed one. Staten Island broke the scoring drought in the fifth with a triple by Jett Nouvertne bringing in one run.
As the Dolphins defense continued to leave the Owls scoreless, their offense came to life in the sixth. A single to two singles each brought in a run giving them a 3-0 lead. Sean Becker scored the last run for Staten Island on a fielder's choice in the sixth.
Ryan Sanderson Started a late game rally for the Owls in the ninth with a double to left center. Followed by walk and an error, which left the bases loaded. Matt Cauchon was walked to bring Sanderson home for the Owls first run of the day. Solid pitching by the Dolphins, two K's and a groundout ended the nine inning game.
The Owls head home for the week, and return to the road Friday the 23rd, in a 3:00 PM game against The Dean College Bulldogs.
