Baseball Postseason Awards Announced

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The USCAA and AD3I released their postseason awards for baseball this week.  Eight University of Maine at Presque Isle Baseball players received honors.

The USCAA honors student-athletes for their work in the classroom.  The All-Academic Team honors are awarded to students of sophomore standing or higher with at least a 3.5 GPA.  The Association of Division III Independents consists of nine NCAA Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions.

Andrew Bartlett (SR, Damariscotta, ME) was named All-Independent First Team Pitcher.  Bartlett finished with a 4-3 record and led UMPI's starting rotation with a 5.32 ERA.  He struck out 35 hitters in 44 innings pitched. 

 

Tommy Collins (SR, Pembroke, ME) was named All-Independent First Team Outfielder.  Collins led the team with a .327 batting average and a .391 on base percentage.  He finished the season with 18 runs scored, 11 RBI, and four doubles.

 

Matt Cauchon (SO, Kingston, MA) was named All-Independent First Team Outfielder.  Cauchon finished the season with a .278 batting average and was second on the team with a .383 on base percentage.  He was second on the team with 35 hits, 19 RBI, and 13 stolen bases, and led the team in walks with 20.

 

Matt Curry (SO, Caribou, ME) was named All-Independent Second Team Pitcher and USCAA All-Academic Team.  Curry finished the season with a 5.46 ERA.  He led the team with 62.2 innings pitched, 11 starts, six complete games, and was second on the team with 38 strikeouts.

 

Saul Nunez (SO, Mapleton, ME) was named All-Independent Second Team Pitcher and USCAA All-Academic Team.  Saul finished with a 5.65 ERA.  He led the team with six complete games, and he started eight games, striking out 35 batters in 51 innings of work.

 

Adam Begos (SR, Westbrook, ME) was named All-Independent Second Team Second Baseman.  Begos finished with a .291 batting average and a .375 on base percentage.  He had 15 RBI, three doubles, one triple, and struck out just five times in 103 at bats.

 

Ryan Sanderson (FR, Cow Bay, NS) was named All-Independent Second Team Shortstop.  Sanderson finished the season with a .248 batting average and led the team with a .419 slugging percentage.  He led the team with nine doubles, three home runs, and was second on the team with 20 RBI.

 

Brady Rowe (SR, Halifax, NS) was named All-Independent Second Team Outfielder.  Rowe finished the season with a .275 batting average and a .367 on base percentage.  He led the team in hits with 36, stolen bases with 14, and runs scored with 27.    

 



Mike Pankow
(3rd Season) was named AD3I Coach of the Year.  Pankow led the Owls to twelve wins despite playing all but two games on the road.
