UMPI Baseball Falls to McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, MD – The University of Maine at Presque Isle (6-15) lost to the #24 ranked McDaniel College by a score of 16-2.

The top hitting team in NCAA Division III baseball wasted no time in jumping on the road weary Owls.  The Green Terrors would score five in the first and four in the second to put the game away early.  In all McDaniel would score sixteen times and collect twenty hits on the day.

The Owls threatened early as they would single and draw two walks in the top of the first.  A base running miscue resulting in a runner getting picked off and a double play groundball would end the threat.  The Owls wouldn't score until the fifth when senior Tommy Collins (Pembroke, ME) would single up the middle to drive in Saul Nunez (SO, Mapleton, ME) who led off the inning with a ringing double.  Matt Curry (SO, Caribou, ME) would single and score in the sixth off of Ryan Sanderson's (FR, Cow Bay, NS) sacrifice fly to center, but that would be all the Owls could muster.

The Owls will travel to Washington D.C. tomorrow to take on Gallaudet University.  The single game starts at 4 PM.
