BARTLETT TOSSES 2-HIT SHUTOUT

NEW YORK, NY – The U Maine Presque Isle Owls scored ten runs to knock off the Vaughn Warriors on Wednesday.

Junior Andrew Bartlett (Damariscotta, ME) pitched six scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while striking out nine and walking one.  The Warrior bats were off balance all evening, as Bartlett attacked the strike zone throwing just 72 pitches.  Vaughn put one threat together in the fifth inning, but with two outs and runners on first and third, catcher Solomon Fast (FR, Phillips, ME) threw out a would-be base stealer to end the inning.

The Owls bats were sluggish to start, collecting just three hits in the first four innings.  They managed to plate their first run in the fourth when Bartlett lifted a deep fly ball to center.  Joshua Labiner (JR, Commack, NY) made a great play to run it down, but Adam Begos (JR, Portland, ME) moved to third on the play and then took advantage of a misplay on the throw to score.

The Owls would score another that inning on a bases loaded walk and take advantage of another Warrior error to lead 3-0.  That was the spark that the Owls needed as over the course of the next two innings they smacked seven hits, to score seven runs and take the game by a final of 10-0.

Three Owls hitters recorded multiple hits, including Brady Rowe (JR, Halifax, NS) who went two for four with two RBI's and a walk, Bartlett who was two for three with an RBI and a walk, and Begos who was two for three with a double, an RBI, and a walk.

The Owls and Warriors were scheduled to square off for a second game, but the game was suspended in the second inning due to darkness.

The Owls will travel to Valley Forge Christian College on Thursday for a double header.  Game one first pitch is scheduled for 2 PM.
