SOUTHERN MAINE TAKE TWO FROM BLUE & GOLD

South Portland – A big first inning doomed the Maine-Presque Isle baseball squad in game one of their double header Friday evening, as the Seawolves of Southern Maine Community College beat the Owls 8-1.

The Seawolves wasted little time in setting the tone of the game.  Back-to-back doubles from the first two hitters Owl Starter Andrew Bartlett faced were followed by a pair of run scoring triples by Ethan Bilderback and Dylan Morrow in the first inning to give Southern Maine a 4-0 lead.

Southern Maine would add three more runs in the fourth inning before Owl leftfielder Ryan Thompson would tally the lone run for Presque Isle in the top of the sixth.

Game Two:  Southern Maine CC 6  Maine-Presque Isle 1

Senior Josiah Brazier pitched well for the Owls until the fourth inning.  Brazier pitching three innings of scoreless ball, walked Seawolves shortstop Bilderback to start the 4th and allowed a pair of run scoring doubles on his way to giving up a five spot in the inning.

Cam Morrell would double and score the only Presque Isle run in game two as the Owls broke through in the sixth inning.  Sophomore shortstop Adam Begos knocked in Morrell and had two hits for the Owls.

Seawolves starter Corey Mongiat pitched well and held the Owl attack in check as the Blue & Gold could only muster four hits against him.  Mongiat struck out 12 and went the distance for Southern Maine.
