OWLS DROP TWO ON NORTH CAROLINA SWING
GREENSBORO, NC – Day two of the 2014 UMaine-Presque Isle Baseball season did not go the Owls way as Presque Isle dropped two games to Guilford College 11-0, 12-2.
Andrew Bartlett had a short day to forget on the mound Tuesday in the first of two match ups. The sophomore hurler gave up five runs in the first and was unable to record an out in the second before leaving the game. Junior Ghazaleh Sailors was called on to relieve and pitched well, giving up five runs, only three earned, striking out three and walking just two in five innings, but the Owls bats could not overcome the deficit.
Guilford pitching gave up just one UMPI hit and struck out eight. Chad Wagoner earned the win on the mound in relief for the Quakers, and Bartlett took the loss for the Owls.
The Owls pitching improved in the second game, with senior Jordan Perry taking the mound. Perry had a strong outing through five innings giving up just four earned runs. The Owls defense struggled in the game, committing seven errors.
Three Guilford College pitchers combined to no-hit the Owls offense with Andrew Martin earning the win on the mound. Perry took the loss for the Owls.
The Owls will return to Guilford on Wednesday for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
