Owls Take Two on Sunday, Three for the Weekend at Eastern Maine

(BANGOR, ME)  -- The University of Maine-Presque Isle baseball team swept a doubleheader at Eastern Maine Community College on Sunday, 11-0 and 11-5.  Presque Isle took three games from EMCC on the weekend as they defeated the Golden Eagles 12-0 on Saturday.  

UMPI is now 10-20 on the season including a 5-2 record against USCAA teams.  EMCC is now 3-17.  Me.-Presque Isle will now prepare this week for a pair of doubleheaders against Newbury College next Saturday and Sunday.  The games were originally scheduled to be the first games played in Presque Isle for coach Leo Saucier's squad this season.  However, field conditions in the city may require a venue change to a more southern location.  A decision will be made later this week.

Game 1:  OWLS 11, EMCC 0

Presque Isle took control early putting up a 5-spot in the top of the first.  3-run frames in the 4th and 6th rounded out the scoring.

Carlos Villoria (Sr./Caracas, Venezuela) had a huge day going 4-4 with a home run, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.  He also stole a base.

Adam Geel (Fr./Calais, ME) picked up his first win of the season tossing a complete game, 3-hit shut out.  Geel struck out 5 and walked none.

Game 2:  OWLS 11, EMCC 5

Trailing 5-4 heading into the top of the 5th, the Owls took control with 6 runs.  SS Jordan Duffy (Sr./Fort Augustus PEI) was perfect at the plate.  Duffy went 3-3 knocked 2 in and scored twice.  3B Daniel Lewis (Jr./Gardner Mines, NS) doubled three times from the 5th spot in the order.  Lewis now has a 5-game hitting streak.

Every Owl position player scored at least one run in the nightcap.

Jordan Perry (Jr./Baileyville, ME) pitched two and a third innings of one-hit relief to pick up the win.  He did not give up a run and struck out 3.

Ghazaleh Sailors (So./Santa Barbara, CA) started and earned a no-decision.  She pitched 3.2 nnings, scattered six hits, and only 1 of the 5 runs she surrendered was earned.
