(DANBURY, CT) -- Due to unplayable field conditions, Western Connecticut State baseball has announced the cancellation of Thursdays' scheduled game against the University of Maine-Presque Isle.
The day off could come as a blessing in disguise for the Owls who are in the middle of a 12-games-in-10-days stretch. The team had been alternating games between New Jersey and Pennsylvania since late last week until today's scheduled visit to the Nutmeg State. Still to come before returning home are trips to New Hampshire (Rivier College on Friday) and Massachusetts (a pair of doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at Fisher College).
Presque Isle is 2-4 on this current trip and 4-12 overall. Yesterday at Eastern (PA) University they were unable to hang on to a 5-3 sixth inning lead and eventually fell to the Eagles, 9-6.
In what has become a tradition by virtual necessity, the Owls have yet to play a home game and will not enjoy any "home cooking" until April 27th when they host Newbury (MA) College.
Weather permitting, UMPI will return to action Friday under the lights at Rivier (NH) College. First pitch is 7:05pm.
