(GREENSBORO, NC) – Jordan Slate's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning plated Casey Mann, clinching the Quakers' 7-6 victory over visiting University of Maine at Presque Isle Sunday at McBane Field.
Guilford's win evens their record to 3-3. The Owls fall to 0-2.
Mann's triple to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning set up Slate's winning RBI. The Owls and Quakers went back and forth throughout the game. Guilford scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, putting them ahead 6-4.
Presque-Isle countered, scoring single runs in the seventh and eighth frames. In both innings, the Owls got a lead off double that they brought around to score. The next inning, Logan McLaughlin (Fr./Mars Hill, ME) led off with a two-bagger to right center. Justin Bergeron's (Jr./Tiverton, RI) sacrifice bunt moved him to third, and a Shane Smith (Jr./Farmington, ME) infield single brought him home and tied the game at 6.
