Wesley Romps Owls, 18-3
(DOVER, DE) -- Sam Farnell drove in seven runs to lead the Wesley College baseball team to an 18-3 victory over Maine-Presque Isle on Monday afternoon at Bob Reed Field. The Wolverines are now 15-7 on the season. The Owls fall to 1-13.
Farnell went 3-5 with three runs scored, a double and a grand slam.
The Owls scored right away in the top of the 1st on a Shane Smith (So./Farmington, ME) lead-off triple followed by a Carlos Villoria (Jr./Caracas, Venezuela) sacrifice fly one out later. However, what appeared to be a tight game early was broken open by a Wolverine ten-run third inning.
The lone highlight for UMPI after the 3rd was a Jordan Duffy (Jr./Fort Augustus P.E.I, Canada) solo home run in the 7th.
Tommy Reapsome, who started on the mound for Wesley, got through the first six innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out three for his first career win.
Anthony Batchelder (Jr./West Enfield, ME) started and took the loss for the Owls. Batchelder lasted 2+ innings, giving up 9 earned runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. Ghazelah Sailors (Fr./Santa Barbara, CA) was the only pitcher of a quartet of UMPI hurlers to not give up any runs on the afternoon. Sailors scattered 4 hits and no runs in 2 innings of relief.
UMPI will travel to Philadelphia Biblical University Tuesday to take on the Crimson Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
