SCRANTON, Pennsylvania - The University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball team earned their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon in an impressive 19-0 decision against Penn State Worthington in non-conference play. With the win, the Owls move to 1-8 on the season.
The Owls used outstanding pitching from freshman hurler, Jordan Perry (Baileyville, ME), who earned the complete game win in seven innings. Perry mowed down his opponent, striking out 11 batters while walking just two and limiting PS Worthington to just one hit. The UMPI defense committed no errors on the day, and scattered 21 hits en route to their 19-0 victory.
Sophomore Carlos Villoria (Caracas, Venezuela) finished 3-for-4 from the plate on the day with four runs scored; Villoria also earned one RBI for the Owls. Freshman 3B Seth Cote (Otis, ME) went 2-for-4, including 4 RBI's, while Andrew Carter (Charlos, NB) had a 2-for-4 effort, earning two RBI's.
Senior captain, Corey Harding (Plymouth, ME) was a perfect 3-for-3 in the game, batting in two RBI's for his team, while CF Stephen Thorne (Dalhousie, NB) finished 3-for-5, with three singles and SS Matt Nadeau (Auburn, ME) went 2-for-5 in the win.
The Owls return to action on Monday, March 21st, as they travel to Penn State Wilkes-Barre for a 3:00 pm contest.
