NEW LONDON, New Hampshire - The University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball team dropped an 11-1 decision to Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday afternoon in non-conference play. With the loss, the Owls move to 6-22 on the season, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 11-18 overall.
The Chargers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a two-run double and an RBI single, plating three runs to earn the 3-0 lead.
The Owls responded with a run in the top of the second on an RBI single from freshman Seth Cote (Otis, Maine). But Colby-Sawyer answered with four runs in the bottom of the second inning, one in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth to give the Chargers the eventual 11-1 victory.
Cote led UMPI from the plate in a 2-for-3 effort, singling twice and driving in the lone Owl RBI. Stephen Thorne (Dalhousie, NB), Ted Walker (Caribou, ME), James Cirell (Bingham, ME), Alex Csiernik (Hamilton, Ontario), and Justin Bergeron (Tiverton, RI) each singled in the game as the team scattered seven runs and committed four errors in the field.
