| UMPI Teams Sweep Weekend Play |

Presque Isle, ME - All five University of Maine at Presque Isle fall athletic teams had a successful weekend:The men's and women's soccer teams, while celebrating Senior Day on Sunday, each pulled out a win against Vermont Tech College in Sunrise Conference play. On the women's side, the Owls were victorious over VTC 5-3; Lainey Herring (Houlton, ME) and Danielle Johnson (Jefferson, ME) each scored two goals a piece, while teammate Desiree Smith (Thomaston, ME) earned one goal and one assist on the day. Sophomore Amber Bradley (Mars Hill, ME) got in the action with one assist. Senior Dylan Harris got the go-ahead goal on the men's side, off a Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) assist, which gave the Owls an early 1-0 lead in the game. Brother Joshua Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) got in the action netting a goal a few minutes later at 11:43, which gave the Owls the final 2-0 win. With their two wins respectively, our women improve to 9-5 on the year and our men improve to 10-3-2 on the season. The UMPI women's volleyball team remains undefeated in the Sunrise Conference after going 3-0 on Saturday at the Sunrise Conference match-up at UMaine Fort Kent. The Owls defeated UMaine Machias, 3-0, Paul Smith's College in three matches as well (3-0), and handed host UMFK a 3-0 loss to finish out the day. With the three weekend wins, the Lady Owls improve to 15-4 on the season. Finally, our men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Mariner Invitational at Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday. Despite the harsh and rainy conditions, our women finished in the top spot on the day, lead by junior Shelly Hanson (Charleston, ME) in 22:43 (3rd place finish). On the men's side, it was a 7th, 8th, 9th, close pack-time finish for the Owls with Hugh McLellan (Maitland, NS) coming in at 32:10, closely followed by teammates Jason Johnson (Presque Isle, ME) (32:12) and Chris Rines (Caribou, ME) (32:29.) With the strong showing, the Owls finished 3rd on the day, just two points behind 2nd place. GO OWLS!!! |
