| Men's Basketball Drops Two on the Weekend |

On Saturday, the Owls battled to a 78-71 loss to the Clippers of the University of Maine at Machias. UMPI was led by Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) who finished with a game-high 20 points on the day, shooting 7-13 from the floor. Teammate Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) added 16 points in the game, dishing out 6 assists in the loss. Fellow guard Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds, while Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) grabbed 11 rebounds and chipped in with 5 points. Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) come down with 13 big rebounds and added 8 points, while Houlton native, Ryan Hill continued his solid play off the bench with 9 points. The Clippers were led by Zack Armstrong who finished with 19 points, while Nathaniel Burke added 14 points. Despite a second half surge in Sunday’s match-up against the Green Knights of Vermont Tech, the Owls were defeated 87-72. UMPI was unable to make up a 19 point deficit as VTC earned the 52-33 halftime advantage. Chris Coffin kept his team in the game through the first 20 minutes of play, finishing with 25 points and 9 rebounds; Coffin shot 7-14 from the floor, including 6-11 from behind the arc in 34 minutes of play. Patrick Manifold and Manny Martinez (Mars Hill, ME) added 12 and 13 points each respectively; Manifold earned a double-double on the day, grabbing 11 rebounds in the loss. Vermont Tech was led by Kevin Carr, who earned a game-high of 28 points; Linden Smith-Hyde finished the day with 22 points and Trent Roleau added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win. The Owls return to action on Saturday, February 6th, as they will host the Bengals of the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Game time is at 3:00 pm. |
