Co-Player of the Week - Ray Mitchell (Jr., Forward from Cleveland, OH)
Ray is honored for the first time this year after averaging a double-double in two games this week. The junior forward from Cleveland, Ohio scored 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds with three assists in a 117-114 win over SUNY Canton. Ray hit the game-tying basket that forced overtime with two seconds left. Ray also had 16 points and nine boards in a loss at Paul Smith’s College. He shot 52 percent from the floor in both games.
Rookie of the Week - Patrick Manifold (Fr., Forward from Great Yarmouth, UK)
Patrick is honored for the third time this year after averaging 22 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals in two games this week. The freshman forward from Great Yarmouth, UK had 28 points, 10 rebounds and two steals in a 117-114 overtime win over SUNY Canton. He also had 16 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks in a loss at Paul Smith’s College.

Senior forward Ray Mitchell Potsdam, NY – The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball team earned a 117-114 overtime win over the Roos of SUNY-Canton on Thursday afternoon in Sunrise Conference action. With the win, the Owls finish the regular season at 6-15 and 6-8 in conference play.
UMPI was led by Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH), who earned a double-double in the win with 36 points and 11 rebounds, while Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) added 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Owls; Mitchell also had 3 assists on the day. Guard Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) scored 26 points in a 10-for-14 shooting effort from the floor and dished out 4 assists in the win. Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) chipped in with 11 points and 9 rebounds, while teammate Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) added 10 points and 8 boards.
State University of New York at Canton was led by Tony Valentine who finished with 27 points to pace the Roos. Tony Parker added 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Jared Williams and Carlton Mitchell each added 18 points.
The Owls shot 52% from the floor on the day and out rebounded their opponents 52-42. SUNY Canton had the 60-50 half-time advantage and led for most of the 2nd half, but the Owls were able to force overtime with a huge Mitchell power bucket from the paint with just seconds remaining on the clock. The lead changed throughout the five minute overtime, with the Owls pulling out the win on the road by sealing the game on the foul line.
In a Wednesday evening match-up against the Bobcats of Paul Smith’s College, UMPI battled to an 82-67 loss.
The Owls were led by Patrick Manifold who finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Ray Mitchell added 16 points and 9 boards. Kyle Corrigan chipped in with 10 points and dished out 4 assists in the loss and Loren Fawthrop (Amherst, NS) earned 9 points and 5 rebounds.
Steven Edwards led Paul Smith with 39 points.
The Owls now play the waiting game as they have a chance to earn a #4 seeding in the Sunrise Conference Tournament, scheduled to take place at NHTI this upcoming weekend in Concord, NH. A Tuesday night game between College of St. Joe's Vermont and Vermont Technical College will determine if the Owls move on or not. If so, UMPI will play top-seeded UMFK for a 3:00 pm semi-final match-up on Saturday, February 27th. |

Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball team earned their 5th season win in a 95-85 victory over top-seeded Sunrise Conference team Fisher College in a Saturday match-up at Wieden Gymnasium.
The Owls placed four players in double-digit scoring in the win; Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) continues to dominate on the court, finishing the game with a team-high 29 points, including a 12-for-22 night from the floor. Ben Rosser (Caribou, ME) was the needed spark off the bench for his team, scoring 22 points and grabbing 7 key rebounds in the win. Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) earned his 5th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds in 28 minutes of play, while point guard Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) dished out a season high 13 assists on the day; Corrigan also chipped in with 12 points in the Owl win. Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) had a solid game for his UMPI team, finishing with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in 40 minutes of play.
Fisher was lead by Louis Williams who earned a game high 35 points in the loss.
The Owls out rebounded their opponents 46-38; both teams were forced into 16 turnovers, but the Owls balanced the TO column earning 26 assists in the game while shooting 51% from the floor.
The Owls return to action on Wednesday, February 17th, as they head to Paul Smith College of NY for a 7:00 pm conference match-up. The following day, Thursday, February 18th, UMPI heads to SUNY-Canton to take on the Roos for a 2:00 pm game. |

Presque Isle, ME - At Presque Isle, Doug Childs poured in 45 points, including a 14-for-15 effort from the foul line, to lift the Saints to an overtime victory over the Owls in the second game on Friday afternoon at Wieden Gymnasium. With the loss, the Owls fall to 4-14 on the season and 4-7 in Sunrise Conference play.
Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) paced a quintet of UMaine-Presque Isle double-figure scorers with 28 points, while Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) finished with 21 points, including a big last second three-point shot to put the Owls in overtime. Peaslee also dished out a game-high 10 assists and grabbed 8 rebounds in the loss. Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) earned a double-double in the game with 20 points and 15 boards; Chris also had a season-high 9 assists in the Owl loss. Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) added 19 points and 9 boards on the day, while teammate Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) chipped in with 14 points and 8 assists.
The Owls shot 49% from the floor and 43% from behind the arc, but continued their woes from the charity stripe with 44% accuracy. UMPI out rebounded their opponents by four, 47-43, while earning a team season-high of 35 assists.
Brad Drysdale scored 33 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for the College of St. Joe’s Vermont.

Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s and women’s basketball teams both dropped hard fought Sunrise Conference games to rival University of Maine at Fort Kent on Saturday afternoon at Wieden Gymnasium.
The Lady Bengals placed three players in double-digit scoring as they earned the 64-48 victory over the Lady Owls in the first game of the day. With the loss, UMPI moves to 5-11 on the season and 5-2 in Sunrise Conference play; both losses in conference coming to UMFK. It was the third pairing of the two teams on the year.
Freshman shooting guard Emily Pelletier (Fort Kent, ME) led her Owl team with 12 points in an impressive 4-for-6 shooting night from behind the arc. Teammate Megan Korhonen (Littleton, ME) finished the game with 9 points and 6 rebounds in 33 minutes of play, while Julie Peers (Caswell, ME) chipped in with 7 points and 8 rebounds. Logahn Walker (Strong, ME) added 7 points and Emily Moore (Lisbon, ME) dished out 6 assists and finished with 5 points on the day; Walker and Moore both earned 4 steals each.
The Owls were held to 35% shooting from the floor and a low of 46% from the foul line, while their opponents shot 50% from the floor on the day and outrebounded the Owls 37-22.
UMFK was led by Amber Garrison and Presque Isle native Angela Norsworthy who both finished with 13 points in the Bengal win.
The UMPI men’s game proved for an exciting contest; despite leading the entire game, the Owls battled to an 91-88 final minute loss. The game showed the potential of a young Owl team; with the loss, UMPI moves to 4-12 on the season and 4-5 in Sunrise Conference play.
Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) had a monster game, leading his team and tying the game high with 32 points and earning a double-double with 10 rebounds. Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) also earned a double-double on the day, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) added 16 points in 6-for-11 shooting night, 4-for-8 from behind the arc; Coffin also dished out 4 assists in the Owl loss. Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the game, while passing out a season-high 9 assists.
UMFK was led by Jimmy Lopez who finished with 32 points, while Brandon Fox and Manny Odugbela added 20 and 19 points respectively in the win.
The Owls shot 48% from the floor on the day, matching their opponents. They hassled the Bengals to 17 turnovers, but were outrebounded 38-35.
Both Owl teams return to Sunrise Conference action on Tuesday, February 9th as they head to the University of Maine at Machias. The women tip-off at 5:30 pm, followed by the men’s game at 7:30 pm. |

Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball games dropped two conference games on the weekend, as they fall to 4-11 on the year and 4-4 in Sunrise Conference play.
On Saturday, the Owls battled to a 78-71 loss to the Clippers of the University of Maine at Machias. UMPI was led by Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) who finished with a game-high 20 points on the day, shooting 7-13 from the floor. Teammate Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) added 16 points in the game, dishing out 6 assists in the loss. Fellow guard Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds, while Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) grabbed 11 rebounds and chipped in with 5 points. Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) come down with 13 big rebounds and added 8 points, while Houlton native, Ryan Hill continued his solid play off the bench with 9 points.
The Owls out-rebounded their opponents 47-39, but struggled with ball, finishing with 27 turnovers. UMPI shot 38% from the floor, including 30% from behind the arc and finishing with 63% from the charity stripe.
The Clippers were led by Zack Armstrong who finished with 19 points, while Nathaniel Burke added 14 points.
Despite a second half surge in Sunday’s match-up against the Green Knights of Vermont Tech, the Owls were defeated 87-72. UMPI was unable to make up a 19 point deficit as VTC earned the 52-33 halftime advantage.
Chris Coffin kept his team in the game through the first 20 minutes of play, finishing with 25 points and 9 rebounds; Coffin shot 7-14 from the floor, including 6-11 from behind the arc in 34 minutes of play. Patrick Manifold and Manny Martinez (Mars Hill, ME) added 12 and 13 points each respectively; Manifold earned a double-double on the day, grabbing 11 rebounds in the loss.
Vermont Tech was led by Kevin Carr, who earned a game-high of 28 points; Linden Smith-Hyde finished the day with 22 points and Trent Roleau added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, February 6th, as they will host the Bengals of the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Game time is at 3:00 pm. |

The Owls placed an impressive five players in double-digit scoring; Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) led all scorers with a 24 point effort from the floor, earning his second double-double of the season with 12 rebounds. Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) scored 18 points with a 7-for-12 shooting night, including two from behind the arc; Coffin also earned 5 assists. Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) finished the game with 15, while teammate Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) added 13 points in the win. Point guard Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) dished out a career-high 10 assists in the game, while committing only one turnover, and finished with 11 points on the night including a 6-for-8 effort from the charity stripe.
The Owls shot a solid 54% from the floor and out-rebounded their opponents by a one-point margin 36-35. UMPI also finished with 23 assists in the game.
The Roos of SUNY Canton were led by Tony Valentine who finished with 18 points. Deric Alston and Carlton Mitchell both added 16 points each in the loss.

Fort Kent, ME - Despite a huge second half UMPI rally, led by Kyle Corrigan’s (Caribou, ME) 17 point and 9 assist effort, the Owls were not able to overcome a 20 point deficit and fell to the host Bengals of Fort Kent 84-72 in conference action on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Owls fall to 2-9 on the season and 2-2 (third place) in Sunrise Conference play, while UMFK (10-7, 3-1 SC) moves into sole position of second place.
Othniel Hyliger (Sandy Point, St. Kitts) led five Bengal players in double figures with game-highs of 22 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks to help carry host Maine Fort Kent in the win. Hyliger was a perfect 7-7 in the first half when UMFK built a 46-28 lead.
The Owls placed four other players in double digit scoring; Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) earned a double-double on the night, connecting for 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) added 11 points, while Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) and Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) each chipped in with 10 points.
For the Bengals, joining Hyliger in double figures were Manny Odugbela (Providence, RI) with 17 points and Brandon Fox (Deptford, NJ), Jimmy Lopez (Fitchburg, MA) and Alan Campbell (Madawaska, ME) who scored 12 points each.
The Owls caused 21 UMFK turnovers, but lost in the battle of the boards 55-38; the Bengals also won in the shooting war, finishing 47% from the floor to UMPI's 38%. The teams will meet again in Presque Isle Feb. 6.

Randolph Ctr, Vt – The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball team earned their second win of the season with a 84-70 victory over fellow Sunrise Conference team Vermont Tech College on the road on Wednesday night. With the win, the Owls improve to 2-7 on the season and remain undefeated in conference play at 2-0.
UMPI had a balanced scoring attack, placing four players in double-digit scoring. Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) led the Owls with a season high of 24 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 9-for-17 from the floor, including a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Manifold also dished out 4 assists and earned 3 blocks on the day. Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) continued his steady point guard play, scoring 16 points from 5-for-12 shooting, while fellow backcourt teammate Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) added 14 points in the win. Ben Rosser (Caribou, ME) added 11 points and pulled down 7 rebounds for the Owls, as the team shot 51.6% from the field, including an impressive 46.2% from behind the 3 point line. A late run in the first gave the Owls a 50-34 halftime advantage; they continued to pour it on in the second, pushing the lead to as much as 20 over their opponents within the closing minutes of play. The Owls answered every Vermont Tech run, not allowing the score to get within 11 points throughout the contest.
The Green Knights were led Kevin Carr, who put up 20 points in the loss; James O’Callaghan and Rayon Watson each chipped in with 13 and 12 respectively.

Castine, Maine - The Maine Maritime Men’s basketball team outscored the UMPI Owls 58-37 in the second half of play to overcome a slow start and beat the visitors from UMaine Presque Isle 78-68 in a non-conference game Friday night.
The Mariners shot 56% from the floor in the second stanza and connected on 6-of-9 threes to secure the win. MMA overcame an 11-point halftime deficit; with the loss, the Owls slip to 0-7 on the season.
Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) and Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) led the Owls with 16 points apiece. Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) played well scoring 11 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a team high five assists. Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) grabbed a team high 11 rebounds in the Owls loss.
Freshman Ben Russell (Farmington, ME) led the Mariner attack with 21 points (15 in the 2nd half) while Sam Bell (Calais, ME) added 19 points and a team high eight assists. Tyler Pineo (Corinth, ME) scored 11 points and senior Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME) chipped in with 10 points and a team high nine boards.

Ray Mitchell Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's basketball team were defeated 66-63 by the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday afternoon at Wieden Gymnasium. With the loss, the Owls fall to 0-6 on the year.
The Owls had four players in double-figure scoring, yet were plagued by turnovers with 24. UMPI was led by Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH), who had 18 points on 7-11 shooting from the field; Ray also grabbed 8 rebounds on night. Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) connected for 12 points on 4-8 shooting from the floor, 2-2 from the three, and finished with 3 assists and 2 steals, while teammate Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) added 11 points and game high 9 rebounds in the effort. Junior guard Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) chipped in with 10 points and dished out 5 assists in the losing effort.
Sam Bell of MMA (3-6) led his Mariner team with 18 points, while Jared Sternbergh finished with 11 from the field. MMA commanded the 37-32 halftime lead; the Owls battled back and held the 3 point advantage with 2 minutes left in regulation, but were unable to take advantage of key opportunities in the closing minutes of play.

Kyle Corrigan - sophomore from Caribou, ME ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's basketball team battled to a 133-58 loss on Thursday night at Memorial Gym against the Black Bears of UMaine. With the loss, the Owls falls to 0-5 on the season, while Maine improves to 4-4 on the season while UMPI falls to 0-5.
Sophomore Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, ME) led UMPI with a 20 point effort, shooting 6-11 from the floor and 5-7 behind the three-point line. Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, OH) pulled down 9 rebounds an dished out 5 assists in the loss. Maine was led by America East Player of the Game Murphy Burnatowski (Waterloo, Ontario) who had 13 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four blocks.
The Black Bears got things rolling in the first half, taking a quick 13-2 lead courtesy of six points from Troy Barnies (Auburn, Maine). The Owls' Peaslee would make a three-pointer on their next possession to close the gap to eight, but that would be as close as UMPI would get the rest of the game.
Maine then went on a 19-to-4 run with Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) accounting for eight points during the run that pushed the Maine lead to 32-9 midway through the first half. Maine continued to pressure, and went on a 26-to-6 run that included a nice two-handed dunk by McLemore off a steal. Maine went 29-for-43 from the field in the first half en route to a 70-19 halftime lead. Maine was led in the first half by McLemore who had 19 points and Barnies who had 14 points and five rebounds. The Black Bears held the Owls to 25 percent shooting in the first half.
The Black Bears went 54-for-90 from the field while dishing out a school-record 37 assists to go with only eight turnovers. The 37 assists broke the previous record of 33 set against East Carolina on Dec. 3, 1980. Maine had 52 rebounds to UMPI's 32. Maine had eight players in double-digit scoring.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's basketball game against the Black Bears of UMaine, which was set to take place this evening, has been re-scheduled to tomorrow, Thursday, December 10th at 7:00 pm. The game will be played in the Memorial Gym. It will be the first time the Black Bears have played a regular season game in the "Pit" since the 2006-07 season. Good Luck Owls! |

Junior Ray Mitchell Newport News, VA - The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's basketball team battled to a 91-69 loss in the first round game to host CNU at the Christophre Newport Invitational tournament on Friday evening.
CNU jumped out early and built a 52-33 halftime lead. The Captains were lead by Conley Taylor who erupted for 14 of his game-high 18 points in the opening 20 minutes of play. Theo Baker came off the bench to score 12 points, Mike Green had 11 points and Mark Blasingame scored 10 and had 14 rebounds.
UMPI was lead by Ray Mitchell (Chicago, IL) who earned a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) added 14 points, while Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, ME) had 12 points and 8 boards.
In the consolation game of the CNU Invitational on Saturday evening, UMPI dropped another decision by a score of 93-70 to Wesley College of Dover, DE. Mitchell and Manifold both lead their Owl team, as the duo combined for 45 of the team's 70 points on 17-of-27 shooting. Ray Mitchell scored a game-high 25 points to go along with five boards and five assists, while Patrick Manifold hit 9-of-11 from the field for 20 points.
A dunk by Mitchell gave the Owls a 23-17 lead with 7:24 to go in the half, but Wesley closed with a 21-8 run fueled by seven points by Kevin Johnson, which gave Wolverines a 38-31 halftime lead. Welsey finished with a 45-28 advantage on the boards.
With both loses, the Owls move to 0-4 on the season. UMPI returns to action on December 9th as they travel to Orono to take on the Black Bears of the University of Maine; game time is at 7:00 pm. |

Henniker, N.H. – Suffolk University guard Mike Gibbons (Ringwood, N.J.) exploded for a game-high 35 points leading the Rams past the UMaine Presque Isle Owls 103-82 Saturday afternoon in Henniker. With the win the Rams improve to 2-0 on the season, while the loss drops the Owls to 0-2 overall.
UMPI offense would open the game on fire hitting their first three shots and building an early 9-2 lead. The two teams would continue to battle back-and-forth before Suffolk would nail three consecutive three pointers taking their first lead of the game at 23-17 with 11:47 remaining in the half.
The Rams would slowly build a lead over the Owls shooting 50% from the field and head into halftime with the comfortable 53-39 lead.
UMPI would battle back midway through the second half trailing just 10 with 9:00 minutes left on the clock but Suffolk would continue their hot shooting finishing the game shooting 50% from the three-point arc and hold on for the 103-82 victory.
Suffolk’s Matt Pepdjonvic (Quincy, Mass.) finished with 23 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Nolan DiPanfilo (Saugus, Mass.) was the only other Ram in double-figures chipping in 18 points.
Leading the way for UMPI was Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio) who finished with a double-double scoring a team-high 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. UMPI’s Ben Rosser (Caribou, Maine) had 20 points and nine rebounds, while Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, Maine) finished with 10 points and a game-high seven assists.

Henniker, N.H. – New England College forward Joe Faragher (N. Ridgeville, Ohio) finished with a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds helping to lead the Pilgrims past the visiting UMaine Presque Isle Owls 88-84 Friday evening. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Owls fall to 0-1.
New England College would jump out to an early ten point lead up 23-13 just seven minutes into the game. The Pilgrims would continue to have the hot hand on offense as they shot an impressive 60% from the field and 60% from the three-point arc in the opening half building a 24 point lead heading into halftime.
The Pilgrims would go up 27 early in the second half but the Owls would use a 9-0 run to cut the NEC lead to 18. The Owls would continue to chip away throughout the second as they would shoot 11-for-13 from the foul line trailing just four heading into the final two minutes of play.
An Owl layup by Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, Maine) with 24 seconds on the clock would cut the Pilgrims lead to just one. NEC would battle off the late surge as they would hit three foul shots in the final 11 seconds to solidify the 88-84 victory.
NEC’s Eric Lenahan (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) finished with 13 points and Sophomore Spenzer Marzouk (Greensboro, N.C.) chipped in 12 points for the Pilgrims.
