The University of Maine at Presque Isle to Compete with Thomas College This Fall.

Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle's Athletic Department announces an agreement with Thomas College to compete in a series of contests in fall sports that are sponsored and hosted by both institutions. These sports include men's and women's soccer, men's golf, and men's and women's cross country.

"We are excited to announce that UMPI is moving forward with a select number of fall competitions in the month of October," said Dan Kane UMPI Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation. "The safety and health of our student-athletes has always been and will continue to be our top priority as appropriate safety protocols will be implemented during these competitions. With current state trends, strict safety protocols, and testing abilities of both institutions we felt Thomas College was the perfect partner in competing with this fall." Kane continued, "Our student athletes, coaches and athletic trainers have done a great job working through the NCAA phases and we couldn't be more proud of their dedication to do the right thing to put our teams in this position where we can compete this fall."

Measures including social distancing and masking will be used when possible during competitions. UMPI is following the current extensive NCAA testing protocols required for competition. Additionally, spectators at events hosted by UMPI will be limited, UMPI will be exploring the opportunity for UMPI Students, Faculty and Staff to attend competitions while complying with State of Maine guidance.  Members of the community will not be permitted to attend, members of the media will be asked to coordinate with the UMPI Athletic Communications office before planning to attend competitions.

 

Contests will begin this Saturday, October 3, and will continue over the following two weekends, ending on Sunday, October 18. The full schedule of contests is listed below (times TBD):

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is still exploring options to provide competition opportunities for our women's volleyball team, as volleyball is not sponsored by Thomas College.
