The University of Maine at Presque Isle has announced the cancellation of all spring sports for the remainder of the 2020 spring sports season due to the Coronavirus public health crisis. The cancellation of the sports season aligns with the rest of the institutions in the University of Maine System as well as many NCAA Division I, II, and III programs and leagues across the nation. A tough but necessary decision to cancel all traditional and non-traditional sports this spring was made to ensure the health and safety of our student athletes, coaches, and community.
This decision will cancel participation in practices and competitions for UMPI's four spring sport programs - baseball, softball, men and women's outdoor track and field. Additionally, the non-traditional seasons of men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's volleyball will not take place this spring.
"I know the decision to cancel the spring sports season has been very tough on our student athletes, coaches, and staff," commented Dan Kane, Director of Athletics. "It has been a great year for UMPI athletics and everyone was excited to see our spring teams compete after all the hard work they put in in the offseason and preseason; however, in making tough decisions, our student athletes health and well-being will always be the top priority in making these decisions."
